Maceió and Alagoas

Alagoas is one of the 27 brazilian federative units (“estados”), located in the east of northeast region. Maceió, the capital of Alagoas, is known to have the most beautiful atlantic cost of South America. The charm of Maceió´s beaches delights right from the start: the sea with its unrivalled color, islands surrounded by lagoons, natural pools formed by the coral reefs, trips on jangadas, beautiful sunsets on the points where the sea meets the lagoons.

The natural swimming pools, formed by the second largest coral barrier in the world, and the serenity of the deep blue sea make this region a paradise for divers. That´s how Alagoas coast is – 230 km of the most amazing white sandy beaches which contrast with the blue color of the sea. Framed by coconut trees, this is where the sun shined around the clock.

The Southern coast of Alagoas is provocative: lagoons and rivers, mingling with the green of coconut groves, meet the sea, creating a unique landscape of intense beauty. Leisure boats cruise with fans of nautical sports in the calm and blue waters. And the sunsets observed from the boat cruising through the lagoon, create spectacular view which is hard to forget.

However there is more than just beautiful beaches. The interior of Alagoas offers amazing nature inviting for adventure: green hills with roaming buffalos, hidden waterfalls and canyons with magic scenaries. Not to forget the historic heritages which remind on the colonial past: Penedo and its baroque churches, Marechal Deodoro and its provincial architecture, União dos Palmares – one of the biggest colony of runaway slaves.
